Cardiff, Wales • Wales
KrewBase is based in Cardiff, and it is the city where our host network is deepest. We hold whole houses, flats and apartments across the CF postcodes and let them to contractors by the crew rather than by the room — so your team of four, eight or twelve stays together, ten minutes from site, instead of scattered across three budget hotels out by the ring road.
Cardiff is compact for a capital, which works in your favour: almost nothing inside the A4232 Peripheral Distributor Road is more than twenty minutes from anywhere else in the city. The practical question is not which side of Cardiff you want, but which junction your crew needs to leave from at 6am.
For work in the east — Tremorfa, Splott, Ocean Park, the docks and Cardiff Bay — we place crews in Splott, Adamsdown, Roath and Grangetown. These are the traditional terraced streets closest to the industrial estates, with the sort of on-street and rear-lane parking that actually fits a Transit. For the north — the Heath, Llanishen, Coryton and anything coming off M4 J32 — we look at Whitchurch, Llanishen, Heath and Birchgrove: quieter, far more likely to have a driveway, and better suited to night-shift crews who need to sleep through the morning.
West, and out towards the airport or the Vale, Canton, Riverside, Ely and Culverhouse Cross put you straight onto the A4232 and A48. For anything at St Mellons, Wentloog or heading toward Newport, Pentwyn, Llanrumney and St Mellons itself keep you east of the city centre traffic entirely.
Cardiff runs several long-cycle programmes at once, and each generates a different accommodation pattern.
Rail and the South Wales Metro. The Core Valley Lines upgrade — electrification, depot works and station rebuilds north of the city — is possession-led. That means night shifts, weekend blocks and crews who need a dark, quiet room at 9am, not a hotel corridor being hoovered. We hold properties on the A470 side of the city and up toward Taff’s Well for exactly this, and we do not put possession crews in shared-entrance blocks.
NHS and healthcare. University Hospital of Wales at the Heath is one of the largest hospitals in the UK, and between locum placements, estates programmes and specialist contractors it draws people in for six to twenty-six week stretches. Heath, Birchgrove and Llanishen are a short drive or a walk away. Healthcare bookings usually want single rooms with a desk rather than bunk-style twins, so we filter for that rather than sending crew stock.
Heavy industry and energy. The steel operations at Tremorfa and Splott, the docks, and grid and decommissioning work out in the Vale all surge headcount during outages and turnarounds. Turnaround work is the hardest thing to book late and the easiest thing to get wrong — if you know your window, tell us early and we will hold stock against it.
City-centre construction and fit-out. Central Square, the Interchange and the continuing build-out around Cardiff Central keep main contractors and their M&E subcontract chains in the city year-round. Cathays, Riverside and Grangetown are walkable to most of it, which removes the parking problem altogether.
Events. Principality Stadium weekends compress hotel supply across the entire city and push rates to three or four times normal. Crews in a KrewBase house never notice, because the rate was fixed when the booking was confirmed.
Cardiff sits on the M4 between junctions 29 and 33, which puts a great deal of South Wales inside a sensible commute. From a Cardiff base you are roughly 12 miles from Newport, 20 from Bridgend, 35 from Port Talbot, 40 from Swansea and 45 from Bristol — all motorway, all realistic as a daily drive for a crew starting at 7:30.
North, the A470 runs up the Taff valley to Merthyr Tydfil in about forty minutes, which is why Cardiff is often the right base for valleys work even when the site is nowhere near the city. South, Cardiff Airport at Rhoose is about twenty-five minutes down the A4232 and A4226.
For crews travelling in without vans, Cardiff Central runs direct services to Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and London Paddington, and Queen Street covers the valleys lines. If half your team is arriving by rail, say so and we will prioritise walkable-to-station properties.
Every property is let as a whole unit, never by the bed. Your crew gets the keys to the house and nobody else is placed in it. Gas, electricity, water and broadband are included and in our name, not yours. Wi-Fi is live and tested before check-in rather than booked to be installed the following week. Weekly cleaning and linen changes are standard, and maintenance calls come to us instead of turning your site manager into a landlord.
Parking is the thing contractors get burned on most often, so we treat it as a requirement rather than a bonus. Tell us how many vehicles and whether any are sign-written or over 2m, and we will filter for driveways, hardstanding or permitted bays instead of hoping for the best.
Commercially: one monthly invoice covering the whole crew, Net-30 credit terms for limited companies, no booking fees, no per-person admin charge and no minimum-stay games. Extend mid-job and it goes on the same invoice line rather than becoming a new account.
Send us the requirement — town, dates, headcount, vehicles and any shift pattern we should know about. We come back within 2 hours with a shortlist from property we already hold, not a search we have just started. You pick, we confirm, the crew moves in, and we stay on it for the length of the job. One monthly invoice, Net-30 credit terms for limited companies, no booking fees.
For most Cardiff requirements we come back with a shortlist within 2 hours and can have a crew in within 24–48 hours. Cardiff is our home city and where we hold the most property directly, so short-notice is genuinely realistic here in a way it is not everywhere.
Yes. Heath, Birchgrove, Llanishen and Whitchurch are our usual pool for hospital work, most a short drive or a walk from site with off-street parking. Healthcare and locum bookings normally want single rooms with a desk and reliable Wi-Fi, so we filter for that rather than sending twin-share crew stock.
Often yes — Cardiff has good supply of larger terraced and semi-detached houses in Splott, Grangetown, Canton and Roath. Above about 12 we will usually propose two properties on the same street or a few minutes apart, so the crew still travels as one group.
Nothing. Your rate is fixed when the booking is confirmed. Hotel pricing across Cardiff spikes hard on international and concert weekends, and a fixed-rate crew house is the single most common reason contractors move off hotels in this city.
Frequently, yes. The A470 gets you up the Taff valley in around forty minutes and Bridgend is twenty minutes down the M4. If your crew is split across several South Wales sites, one Cardiff base is often cheaper and far simpler than chasing accommodation next to each of them.
Yes, and we book it differently. Night crews get properties with good blackout, no shared entrances and neighbours who will not be a problem at 9am. Tell us it is possession work at enquiry stage and we will filter for it.
Yes — gas, electricity, water and broadband are in our name and included in the rate, along with weekly cleaning and linen. There is no end-of-stay reconciliation and no meter-reading exercise.
Always. One monthly invoice to the company covering the whole crew, with Net-30 terms for limited companies. Your workers never put a card down and never claim it back on expenses.
